My Dear Fellow Clergymen:

Today marks the 51st anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Words always come up short in describing the legacy he left behind and the impact he has had on our country, and today we remember him and his never-ending pursuit of equality and justice.

March was a huge month for Doug. Here’s a quick recap of some of what Doug’s been working on with your support:

Since 1867, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or “HBCUs,” have played a vital role in Alabama’s higher education system. With 14 today, Alabama is home to the most of any state in the country.

From Florence to Dothan, Mobile to Huntsville, and every stop in between – Alabama is a proud producer and exporter of goods to countries around the world. In fact, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, more than 567,000 Alabama jobs are supported by global trade.

First, let me begin by expressing how honored and humbled I am to be a member of this body and to represent the great state of Alabama. I began my career right here, fresh out of law school in 1979, working as staff counsel to Senator Howell Heflin on the Judiciary Committee.

People don't ask too much of their politicians and they don't expect us to have all of the answers--but they do expect us to work on their behalf to strengthen their communities.
